Vineyard Montessori - About Us
ABOUT VINEYARD MONTESSORI
Thank you for visiting Vineyard Montessori's website. I was fortunate to have found my passion early in life, realizing that I wanted to be a teacher when I was a young child growing up in a family of nine. I attended Brigham Young University where I majored in elementary education. I started teaching in the public school setting where I recognized some of the limitations of traditional education. I learned of a better educational philosophy when I returned to California and discovered Montessori Education. The beautifully ordered and prepared classrooms were ideal settings for learning to take place and I appreciated the peaceful, respectful interactions with the children that are key elements of Montessori training. I could finally take the time with each child to ensure mastery of a skill before moving on, while also challenging the accelerated learners.
I obtained my AMS Montessori teaching credential in 1991 and founded Montessori Country Academy in 1999. I taught for more than 20 years before stepping out of the classroom to focus more on mentoring teachers and managing school administration. I've enjoyed the privilege of educating hundreds of children in the Elk Grove and Sacramento area, including my own three children. My oldest has graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, my second is working toward his degree in Construction Management, and my youngest is studying Veterinary Medicine. Much of their academic success can be attributed to their early foundations built on the Montessori method. Opening Vineyard Montessori in 2017 is another dream fulfilled and I look forward to many more successful years providing an authentic Montessori education in this community.
Julie Green, Owner/Director
Vineyard Montessori was established on May 1st, 2016 and opened its doors on September 5th, 2017. Owner, Julie Green, has over 25 years of experience in education (both traditional and Montessori). Our staff is highly qualified and passionate about providing the best care and education possible.
The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is based on her scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has over 100 years of success around the world.
We view our students as individuals who are naturally eager to learn. Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared with the child in mind. Specially designed Montessori learning materials (jobs) are meticulously arranged and presented in an attractive manner.
Our classrooms are multi-age, providing unique social development by allowing our older children to peer-mentor our younger ones and our younger ones to learn from their more experienced classmates. Students make individual choices within an organized and structured enrivonment, learning to independently direct their learning experience. With this "freedom within limits", children are provided with a supportive, respectful environment in which they can bloom.
